Supporting Your Sexual Health Through a Catholic Lens

Jun 23 / Dr. Bridget Anderson, ND
Sexual health is a deeply personal and often sensitive topic, and for many, especially those raised in the Catholic faith, it can feel uncomfortable to talk about, even in a medical setting. But it doesn’t have to be that way.

As a naturopathic doctor of 16 years, raised in Catholic traditions, I’ve walked with individuals and couples through some of their most vulnerable health moments. My passion is helping people understand their bodies, find peace with the changes they’re experiencing, and support their health in a way that honors their faith, dignity, and wholeness.

What is Sexual Health?

Sexual health is often misunderstood or narrowly defined. In truth, it’s about more than just physical intimacy, it’s a reflection of our overall well-being. When we nurture our bodies, our minds, and our relationships, we’re better able to live in the fullness of who God created us to be.

Here are the three main areas I support:

1. Sexual Issues

These are physical symptoms that often bring people in, but they’re usually just the surface of a deeper story. Common concerns include:

  • Vaginal pain or dryness
  • Low libido
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Prostate health issues

These challenges can affect confidence, connection, and even faith. My approach is gentle and holistic, we look at the whole person, not just the symptom.

2. Hormonal Imbalances

Our hormones are beautifully complex and impact everything from mood to metabolism to fertility. For both men and women, hormonal shifts can be disorienting, but they don’t have to be suffered in silence.
I support issues such as:

  • PMS, PCOS and painful periods
  • Irregular or absent menstrual cycles
  • Fertility challenges
  • Perimenopause and menopause
  • Andropause (sometimes called “male menopause”)

In Catholic teaching, fertility is a gift, and I’m here to support couples who want to understand their cycles or explore ways to prepare their bodies for conception and enhance their fertility naturally.

3. Mental Health and Emotional Well-being

Mental health and sexual health are profoundly connected. Anxiety, depression, stress, and past wounds can impact desire, function, and connection. This is especially true in a culture that often distorts sexuality and pressures us to conform to unhealthy standards.

I offer a safe and compassionate space to unpack how mental and emotional well-being may be affecting your body and your relationships. Through education, encouragement, and natural tools, I help you begin to feel more like yourself again.

A Faith-Rooted Approach

For many Catholics, navigating the healthcare system can feel isolating, especially when faced with advice or protocols that contradict Church teachings. You deserve to feel safe, supported, and seen.

At Catholic Intimacy, I serve not as a diagnosing physician, but as a guide and educator. I help you understand what may be happening in your body, offer natural and faith-affirming strategies to begin supporting your health at home, and empower you to advocate for yourself when working with your primary care doctors.

This is about reclaiming your health in a way that aligns with your values. It’s about walking with integrity, spiritually, physically, emotionally, and knowing you don’t have to walk it alone.

Let’s Start with a Conversation

Because sexual health is so personal, it’s important that this feels like the right fit. That’s why I offer a complimentary 30-minute conversation to explore your needs, share how I might help, and ensure this is a supportive and respectful step forward.

If it’s not the right fit, I’ll do my best to guide you toward your next steps. Either way, you’ll walk away with clarity and a little more peace.
