Screaming at Trees Counseling
After earning her BSW, her MSW, her LMSW, and working as a case manager, therapist, and intake specialist, Megan finally has completed all the requirements for independent practice and so become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Missouri.
For years now, we have talked and she has dreamed about what she would call her private practice. We floated pious names like Sacred Hearts Counseling, etc. The problem with names like that is they get lost in the list of all the other pious or warm-and-fuzzy type names. To have another generic name just doesn’t suit her personality.
Now most therapists name their practice after something that evokes where their clients want to be: flowing waters, peace, open hearts, etc. That’s fine and well, but I threw out the idea of a name that reflects where people are coming from. Now, you should know that Megan is a trauma, military, and personality disorder therapist, and I can say professionally that she is a good one. When we worked in the same office for a time, I could clearly see the positive change that her clients underwent.
Now one tool that Megan likes is having her clients scream at trees. Yes, you read that right. They are supposed to roll down their windows on a back country road and scream at the trees. Of course, there is more to it than just that, but you would have to talk to her about the details of the exercise. This may sound a bit far-fetched, but for trauma clients, it can be incredibly cathartic and a useful exercise in learning when and how to express their emotions. So, she has named her practice Screaming At Trees Counseling (SATCo).
So, if you are in the military, a veteran, a military family member, have trauma, have a personality disorder (BPD, etc.), and need a therapist, check out her site. Note, that at this time she can only accept clients who are physically located in Missouri. Megan is currently working on getting accredited with several insurance agencies. Please see her site for updated information.
